Singled Out: Rehab's Danny Boone
. Fish Grease: The song Fish Grease is the first song I recorded for my album of the same name. I had a lot of instrumental tracks but nothing really solid. To say the least I was pretty stressed with deadlines looming. One night while sitting and going through tracks a friend of mine came over. I was really feeling the track that was playing. I asked Jeff what he thought and he said, "that's hot as fish grease!" So I wrote the hook around that. However, I didn't have any verses and my writers block was in full effect. Then the label called and said I need to be in Nashville to start recording. So I go with a hook called Fish Grease and a few tracks I selected to write to. As we got started at Phivestarr studios I was feeling like I should have been way more prepared. Jared was talking about how Average Joes had just gotten a big write up in the Wall Street Journal. Somehow it all just immediately clicked. I could write about the Average Joes movement!!! Everything just fell into place from there. I was one song into my solo album. Camo Bikini: This song started off as just an idea, like most songs do. The words camo and bikini just went together good. It was one of those ideas that you know you'll use but you just sit on it for several months wondering how to make a whole song about something so simple. Jared and DJKO pulled up some music hey had been working on and I thought the track was really summertime friendly. So now I got the track to write camo bikini to. I had been touring several years and had come up with a lot of hooks that I never used for what ever reason. One of them suddenly popped in my head which was the "she gotta body like OOOOWOOO" part. I just added the camo bikini line and made a few adjustments and had the hook. From there, I had to come up with an angle to write the verses from. I decided to go with the "let me tell you bout this girl I met at the party" angle. Of course she had to be wearing that camo bikini. I got the first verse down and went to write the second. Jared and KO thought the second verse should be like a verse I recorded years earlier with them in Atlanta. So we reconfigured that old verse to fit the format of the song. The bridge was really just designed to bring closure to the song. And a happy ending is always good. CAMO BIKINI!!!! Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
