Morrissey Blames Opening Act for U.S. Tour Cancellation

(Radio.com) Morrissey had been canceling shows here and there on his U.S. tour, but it looks like it's over for good this time. On Tuesday night, the former Smiths frontman took to his Facebook page to announce the cancellation of the remainder of his U.S. tour.

"It is with great sadness that the remainder of the US Tour has been cancelled," a note on the page read. "The respiratory infection Morrissey contracted in Miami has worsened, and in the interest of making a full recovery, all further touring plans have been halted. Morrissey thanks his fans for their compassion, understanding, and well-wishes during this difficult period as he recuperates."

However, a different statement posted to the Morrissey fan site True To You placed blame for Moz's illness. It mentions that "Difficulties had arisen on May 31st following Kristeen Young's opening set at the Miami Knight Concert Hall, after which Kristeen confessed to 'a horrendous cold,' the symptoms of which were passed on to Morrissey resulting in the cancellation of the next show in Atlanta.

"For the good of all, Kristeen was asked to step down from the immediate upcoming shows, but instead she decided to leave the tour entirely. Morrissey and the band wish her well and hope she is now in good health."

The message noted that the shows on this tour were some of Morrissey's "best-ever," and gave a list of some of them. Coming in at number one was the show at Boston's Opera House, where he debuted the new song "Kick the Bride Down the Aisle" on June 7.

For her part, Young responded the True To You post on her own Facebook page, in a message that was taken down, edited and then reposted, but has since been taken down again. Read it here.
