Ed Sheeran Performs Country Versions of Hip-Hop Songs
. But Tuesday night on MTV, Sheeran showed he wasn't afraid to try his hand at some of the more well known hip-hop tracks from DJ Khaled, R. Kelly and Jay Z. Of course, Sheeran is no stranger to covers, recently doing a spot-on take of Sam Smith's "Stay With Me," but MTV couldn't make it easy on the guy, so they asked him to cover these hip-hop songs in the style of country-western. Yes, with a country twang and an acoustic guitar, Sheeran manages to do Snoop Dogg's "Drop It Like It's Hot" and one line from Drake's "Trophies," which he says is the best line but is not one that Taylor Swift embroidered on a pillow for him. Hopefully she's working on it. R. Kelly's "Ignition" now sounds like something Toby Keith and his red Solo cup-wielding fans could enjoy, while Jay's "99 Problems" is now a Bob Dylan-esque strummer that we'd like to see Willie Nelson cover in the future.
