(Radio.com) '70s British pop star Gary Glitter has been charged with eight counts of sexual offenses against underage girls, according to the BBC. Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in England on June 19.

The charges he faces relate to two women who were between 12 and 14 years old at the time of the alleged offenses between 1977 and 1980. Gadd, 70, was arrested on Oct. 28, 2012, at his London home following an investigation by detectives from Operation Yewtree, which was set up after what the British press refer to as "The Jimmy Savile abuse scandal" - Savile, who died in 2011, was a British TV host who has been accused of sexually abusing over 500 children.

His charges relating to the first complainant, who was aged 12 or 13 at the time of the alleged offenses, include multiple counts of indecent assault, one count of "administering a drug or other thing in order to facilitate sexual intercourse" and one count of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13. more on this story
