Today Marco Argiro (The Killing Floor, Le Mood, or Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg) tells us about the title track from his brand new solo album "Love". Here is the story:

The writing process for "Love" came about in a unique way compared to the rest of the songs on the album. Initially, I had written a slower song called "So Long, Farewell" which dealt with the passing of friends and loved ones, but as I was writing the end of the piece I found myself riffing on the main chord for a while until the song began to evolve into a more up-tempo shuffle.

I began to experiment with the roots of that main chord and added a couple others to complete the section. It was clear to me that I wanted to keep the second half of the song fairly simple and would need to rely on a solid vocal melody to accompany it. Almost instantly I felt I had a strong tune in the making if I could only get it right. I kept belting out these soulful lines while pulling some words and inspiration from the earlier piece.

All I did for the next few hours was loop those three chords and work on the dynamics of the song. More than anything else, I suppose the pre-chorus was inspired by Chuck Berry and T-Rex while the chorus lyric is a tip-of-the-cap to the late, great John Lennon and his mantra that "Love is all you need." I felt that combining these pieces together balanced the song, creating a yin and yang.

The first few times I performed the song live, I did it as one long piece of music--with the working title being Love Part 1 and Love Part 2. In fact, I originally recorded the song the same way. It didn't dawn on me until much later in the album mixing process that it would be best to separate the two pieces of music and make Love a song that should stand on its own.

Sometimes we are so focused on jobs, money, success, power, even our hopes and dreams that we forget what life is really all about, LOVE. It's simple really--if you can just stop and think about it for a minute. Life is about Love. In this song the main character is on a quest for knowledge and the never ending thirst to answer life's most confounding questions. The song is about that journey, and in the end realizing that love is really the ultimate elixir.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and check out the video right here!
