Jimi Hendrix Biopic U.S. Premiere Set
. According to Billboard, Jimi: All Is By My Side will make its American debut at this year's SXSW Film Festival, scheduled for March 7-15. The movie was previously shown during the Toronto Film Festival last September. In the movie, director John Ridley-who wrote the screenplay for 12 Years A Slave-focuses on the year leading up to Hendrix's impending stardom, ending right before the guitarist's famous fire-starting performance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival in California. The Hendrix estate wouldn't allow filmmakers to use any of the "Purple Haze" singer's original music, so according to Rolling Stone, the movie focuses on the artist's famous cover versions, including takes on the Beatles' "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "Wild Thing," written by Chip Taylor and made famous by The Troggs in 1966. more on this story Radio.com is an official news provider for antiMusic.com.
