Fatal South by Southwest Car Crash Leads To Lawsuits

(Radio.com) Seven lawsuits have been filed against South by Southwest in the aftermath of a fatal car crash that left four dead and nearly two dozen injured at the festival earlier this year in Austin, Texas.

In the lawsuits, SXSW festival organizers are being sued for safety lapses where Rashad Owens plowed through a crowd at the festival after he drove his car through a DUI checkpoint.

One wrongful death lawsuit was filed by Steven Craenmehr's family. He was a Dutch music executive riding a bike when he was hit and killed. His family is arguing that the festival didn't organize enough traffic safety and that if it had, his death could have been prevented.
