Carrie Underwood Explains Little Toy Guns Meaning

(Radio.com) With a title like "Little Toy Guns," it would seem obvious that this new Carrie Underwood song would be about firearms. But according to Underwood, that's not exactly the case. Instead, as she told Chicago's US99.5 (a CBS Radio station), "it's about words."

'Little Toy Guns" is one of two new songs on Underwood's new album Greatest Hits: Decade #1, a 25-track collection covering high points from her 10-year career. The album drops on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Underwood wrote "Little Toy Guns" with Chris DeStefano ('Good Girl") and Hillary Lindsey ('Last Name," 'Two Black Cadillacs," 'Jesus, Take the Wheel"), and it's one of two new songs on Greatest Hits: Decade #1, along with the GRAMMY-nominated "Something in the Water."

Underwood admitted that the song's title is provocative, and that it might imply that the song is actually dealing with stories or issues around guns.

"It's definitely not what the song is about," Underwood explained to US99.5. "It is an interesting title. You want that, you want people to be like, 'What is this about?'"

Instead, Underwood said, "it's about words. It's about a child hearing her parents fighting. Even at a young age she realizes how much they hurt. And she wishes they were plastic and fake, like toys, and they didn't actually cause any damage." Read more here.
