Wiz Khalifa Releases Video For New Slow Jam Promises
. The song's lyrics, full of longing and thoroughly attained pleasure, is paired by director Gerard Victor (Fabolous, Black Milk) to a more Romeo & Juliet story of unquenched longing - an apt choice, since creating blue music videos can lead to a decrease in exposure. Interestingly, the majority of the video seems to have been shot in one location that is made to look like several urban shots - expedient, cost effective and clever. We follow (and occasionally fly above) Khalifa's innocent and charming interactions with his girl. The main story is offset, for whatever reason, by shots of him playing basketball with his boys. One of the most disconcerting and oddly fascinating of which shows the guys lined up behind him as he lip synchs the line, "Let's get caught in the moment," while they all stare directly into the camera. Unlike Romeo & Juliet, there are no barriers between these two lovers aside from the potential to mess up (reflective of Khalifa's lyrics, "Don't let me down/You made those promises"). Thus no real storyline to the video, just a pretty visual that follows a pair of young lovers in some lush urban jungle. Rather like the first half of West Side Story, before things got messy.
