SomeKindaWonderful's Fateful Beginning
. The song, like the band itself, came together in a most serendipitous fashion, after lead singer Jordy Towers left L.A. for the Midwest to regroup after a failed record deal left him despondent and ready for a drastic change. "I thought my dreams were coming true on this big label," Towers said of the deal that quickly turned sour. "I did a video where I had to wear a stupid red suit and dance around like I was Justin Timberlake. I wanted to kill myself, honestly. That's not who I wanted to be." A week after making the move, Towers found himself at a bar in tiny Olmsted Falls, Ohio, where he ran into local music staples, drummer Ben Schigel and guitarist Matt Gibson, who were casually jamming. "I guess they were hammered," Towers laughed at the memory. "They were playing this melody, and I go to the back like, 'What is that? That's so fresh,'" Towers continued. "I started singing a melody to it, and we were all kind of looking at each other. I was like, 'Let's go record. Do you know a studio out here?'" Schigel also felt like meeting Towers was an act of fate being that he and his bandmates had been struggling in the studio all night before deciding they needed a drink. "We were like, 'Man, we really need a singer, we've got all these new songs we're working on,'" Schigel recalled. "We thought it would be impossible to find someone. We go to the bar, and sure enough, we run into Mr. Towers here." Despite luck being on the band's side, it's still been a struggle getting from the bar to one of the most promising bands of 2014. "We're still fighting for our freedom," Towers said, referring to his year-long struggle to escape his previous recording contract. "But we're just really blessed to be where we are right now." more on this story Radio.com is an official news provider for antiMusic.com.
