Singled Out: Brooklyn's Light It Up
. Born in the heart of Detroit's east side everyone's first question to me is usually, "What's your REAL name?" and I always tells them, "Brooklyn of course ..." Named after the famous borough that my father's fellow marine and best friend hails from, I'm definitely trying to represent hip hop to the fullest for my adopted city and my home city Detroit. With the release of my latest single Light It Up, I aim to prove that I'm here to stay! Light It Up is basically my transition from being a child to growing into a young man. I made my first single "What's My Name " when I was 12 to explain to everyone who I am, where my name Brooklyn came from and how I plan to become a Hip Hop Legend! It hit radio and was received very well and at that point, I knew that this is what I wanted to do with my Life. But having a mother who's an executive in the music industry that didn't really want me to get involved in the "Family Business", I would keep my lyrical content safe and acceptable to her so that I my rap career wouldn't be a short lived one. My second single "Everythang" was released when I was 16 and it pretty much stuck to the same recipe. It was a true story about a girl that I was dating at the time. My dad has always been in my life, but I was also raised around a bunch of women and I was taught to treat women the way I want my mother to be treated. So I decided to do a song about giving my girl all the things that she ever dreamed of, which once again was a reflection of my mind state at that time because of my upbringing. Fast forward to 2013 and Light It Up and I'm hitting them with much more mature content. I'll be 18 years old in just a few months, I graduate high school this year and I want my fans to know that I am not a kid anymore. As I move into adult life I also want each song that I release to reflect an average day in the life of Brooklyn as young adult! Every young man & woman graduating high school and headed to college and other endeavors in life that pop in my CD will hear something that they can relate to that's what I want to build with my music, a bridge between me & my fans. I am here to bring fun, love and dance back to hip hop! Working on the music video for Light It Up is proving to be an incredible event! I know when people hear the song the first thing that they are going to expect me to put out is a music video that will only be played in the middle of the night because of its explicit visual content, but we plan on bringing y'all much more than that! What you hear may not exactly be what you think you see we plan on using a lot of play on words, ideas and illusions we have a major twist to the video that might make you look at the song totally differently once you view it Stay Tuned, it's coming soon! So Close Your Eyes, Light A Candle, Set The Mood With The Hook Masterfully Delivered by Cory Jones and Get Lost Into The Smooth Lyrics of Light It Up! Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself right here!
