Singled Out: PLS PLS
. Musically I wanted to write something catchy, inherently simple, and that reminded me of being in a roller rink in 1985 (complete with 8 bit laser beam/ bomb drop sounds). Lyrically, I have a hard time writing about dancing, shaking your ass, or robots, or freakazoids or whatever people were writing about back then so I had to go another direction. So, I went with the old standby, the ups and downs of relationships. The frustration of not knowing what someone wants from you and being pushed to a breaking point as a result. On/Off/On is kind of a dark song, but it does have those super cool tom overdubs in the verses that remind me of "Burning Down the House", and that makes me smile every time. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
