Arcade Fire Release 'Afterlife' Lyric Video
. The studio version of the song made its official premiere today (Oct. 21) on Zane Lowe's popular BBC Radio 1 show, followed by the release of the lyric video. The clip utilizes scenes from 1959 Brazilian movie Black Orpheus, directed by France's Marcel Camus. The reference reinforces the album's relationship to the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice, both depicted on the cover art for Reflektor. Diehard Arcade Fire fans will recognize the highly danceable "Afterlife" as the second song the band performed on the premiere episode of this season's Saturday Night Live, which was followed by a cameo-laden half-hour special "Here Comes the Night Time," where the Canadian collective spotlighted three more tracks from the upcoming full-length. The double-album, which was produced with the help of LCD Soundsystem mastermind James Murphy, is a "mash-up of Studio 54 and Haitian Voodoo music," according to Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler. The 12 tracks found on Reflektor were culled from fruitful recording sessions that yielded "50 or 60″ tunes, Butler added.
