Singled Out: Icon For Hire's Hope of Morning
. Hope of Morning was one of my favorite pieces to write, and continues to be one of my favorites to sing live. Shawn showed me the piano melody he had written and I fell in love. I had been writing these really poignant, vulnerable lyrics that I had originally pictured as a hip hop track, but the emotion of the lyrics called for emotive music as well. Lyrically, it's the most scary thing to sing because I discuss very literally my struggles with mental stability and self disgust. It's much easier to hide these themes in a rock song where no one can really hear the lyrics anyways, but I managed to put them center stage on this song. The chorus came last, and was initially the chorus for Think I'm Sick. When we paired that sweeping, angelic chorus melody with the raw vulnerability of the lyrics, it worked perfectly. It reminded us why we write music. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
