Today Ariel Aparicio from Bardot tells us about the song "Sylvia, My Love" from the group's debut EP, which they just released as a free download on their official website. Here is the story:

"Sylvia, My Love" was one of the first tunes we did. Man, did it come together quickly! Berger hit that drum groove almost instantly when I started playing the song, everything else just fell right into place.

Pemberton's killer part is just bad ass , but when he went to that high octave trotting bass line for the chorus, we all almost lost it. And of course, as always, Dawson came up with his riff on the first try but on every replay it just got better and better.

I sometimes write lyrics very stream of conscious, and this was one of those songs. I really didn't know who "Sylvia" was as I was writing it... The name just kept popping in my head. At the end of our first rehearsal session with this song Berger asks me, "Is this about Sylvia Rivera?" I said, "Who?" He said, "You know, Sylvia Rivera... Stonewall, GLBT activist." I went home and Googled "Sylvia Rivera." Immediately I started rewriting some of the lyrics... "Sylvia - good as gold, She rocks my soul."

This song is dedicated to an American hero, Sylvia Rivera.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album and grab the free download right here!
