Singled Out: Hamish Anderson's Howl
. It was written pretty fast, which doesn't always happen when writing but is great when it does. Originally I had read the word "howl" somewhere and it just stood out to me for some reason. After that I heard the riff in my head and that really drove the entire song and its feel, I knew I really wanted to go all out with it and try and make the song as big as I could. The lyrics I wrote in one night, the chorus lyrics came first and then it was basically about writing around them in a way that would make it all fit together. For the recording of the song we knew we wanted the majority of it to be a live take. During the recording the drummer's cymbal split from being belted so hard and the old Vox guitar amp I was using blew. 'Howl' is basically a song about human passion and wanting someone. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and watch the video here, plus learn more about the album right here!
