(Radio.com) Ed Sheeran is channeling Bilbo Baggins for his first new song in over two years. The haunting track written by Sheeran is featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming Peter Jackson movie, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and has Sheeran not only lending his vocals, but as the singer admitted on Twitter, he got the chance to produce and play all the instruments on the song, apart from the cello. He even taught himself how to learn violin for the occasion.

A video for the spare folk ballad details the recording process with Sheeran laying down his vocals and guitar parts before getting to take a photo with the film's director. The clip also gives a sneak peek at the upcoming movie, due out December 13.

Earlier this week, Sheeran was nerding out about his inclusion on the soundtrack, thanking Jackson on Twitter for letting him be a part of the process. And even though "I See Fire" won't be on his upcoming album, Sheeran did hint that he's finally getting ready to work on the follow-up to 2011′s +.

He tweeted "It's also the first solo song I've released in over 2 years, it's not on the new album though, that fun starts next year." Listen to the song here.
