(Gibson) A collection of John Lennon's letters and lyrics have been presented to the British Library's Treasures Gallery as part of a new British tax relief program, BBC News has reported.

Beatles biographer Hunter Davies donated the materials which include Lennon's handwritten lyrics for "Strawberry Fields Forever" and an early draft of "In My Life" through an initiative that encourages citizens to give gifts to the nation in exchange for a tax reduction.

Hunter, 77, wrote and published the only official biography of the Beatles, in 1968. It's estimated the donation will reduce his tax obligation by nearly a half-million dollars.

"I want my Beatles collection to be kept together, in one place, and on public display, and the British Library is the perfect home for it," he said. "I'm really pleased the cultural gifts scheme has helped me make this a reality." more on this story
