Andrew Stockdale Retiring Wolfmother Name

(Gibson) Australian rocker Andrew Stockdale has announced that he will no longer be using the name Wolfmother. Stockdale explained his decision to Billboard:

"For the last three years I've performed as Wolfmother, and I don't feel comfortable about it. Chris Ross, who played bass and keys in the first line-up when we started, he came up with that band name. That name was for me, Chris and [drummer] Myles Heskett. It became Wolfmother. Because of the success of the name, there was pressure then to call yourself Wolfmother. But it felt weird."

Stockdale, Ross, and Heskett released their self-titled debut in 2005, and garnered quite a bit of success around the world. After Heskett, and Ross left the band due to "irreconcilable differences" Stockdale continued under the Wolfmother moniker but with an all-new lineup, releasing 2009's Cosmic Egg.

On June 10, Andrew Stockdale will release his first album under his own name, aptly titled "Keep Moving." The first video from the album, "Long Way To Go," is already out. Stockdale's last show as Wolfmother was on April 28 in Melbourne, Australia, as the opening act for Aerosmith. more on this story
