Singled Out: Fernando Perdomo
. Smile is a good example of the power of music. Some of my songs have taken years to complete, Smile was written in 10 minutes. I wrote it for a friend who lost her brother tragically to a drug overdose. She was inconsolable and I wanted to see her beautiful smile again. Around the same time my mom was diagnosed with cancer and it became her theme song. When she passed away a year ago.. It became my theme song. The music and production is inspired by one of my favorite 80s songs, Life in a Northern Town by Dream Academy. I wanted it to be as epic and moving as the David Gilmour produced original. Chris Rodriguez took my little diddy and surrounded it with a quirky orchestra with strings, flutes, and horns. I was listening to a lot of Rufus Wainwright especially "Want One" and I think you will see that it rubbed off!! Smile is not my favorite of my songs, but it is a fan favorite and it never ceases to get a rise out of people. I love hearing personal stories of how the song has affected it's fans. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself here and learn more about the album right here!
