Known for his metronomic precision, he played on the band's first seven albums and best-known singles, including the pioneering debut LP, Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!, and the 1980 hit "Whip It."

He left the band in 1986, frustrated by the group's increasing use of electronic drums. In recent years he had played improvisational music with his wife, Christine Myers, in a band called Skyline Electric.
