Singled Out: J. Peguero's Callin'
. Callin' is basically about a chapter in my life, which can certainly be related to by millions around the world! At the time the song was created I was in a relationship and constantly on my grind, working hard to develop my career, following my dreams of becoming a legendary hip hop artist. I was always away from home, on the road doing shows, promoting my music, all night sessions in the studio, doing whatever I needed to do to get that edge and break. Of course, my girl was back home missing me, wishing we had more time to spend together, but these are the sacrifices I made in order to make my path in life, to provide for my family and loved ones. It's a stressful struggle to keep both the professional and personal worlds happy at the same time. It's a balance that can never be mastered no matter how hard we try. It was important to me to let each and every set of ears listening to Callin' know that they're not alone. The hook reinforces the scenarios that I am explain through the verses and allows you to close your eyes and visualize your own circumstance, "What are the chances you'll be here when I come back, I know the risk I'm taking, I know your heart I'm breaking". The message is that while I am out here doing everything possible to become successful, acknowledging my understanding of creating stress and strain on our relationship, will she be there when I return with a welcoming embrace? When it came time to shoot the video, it was important that we took a cinematic approach to show situations that relate to people in a similar struggle. Obviously, there are those who travel around the world in our Armed Forces. These individuals put their lives on the line to protect our freedom and are not only faced with the challenges of being away from their family with limited contact, but not knowing what conflict tomorrow will bring. These heroes are definitely in my thoughts and prayers each and every day, as some of them end up making the ultimate sacrifice, never to make it back to their loved ones again. But this song can be related to by just about anyone, from the truck driver who leaves home for weeks at a time, away from their family, in order to put food on the table, to those going off to college in an effort to further their education. The list of those affected goes on and on, and no one is exempt from this experience, which is why I felt motivated to create this song to shed light and help people going through the same thing. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself here and learn more about the album right here!
