Carly Rae Jepsen Recalls Her Vomit-Inducing First Time On The Radio
. The second we asked Jepsen if she remembered her first time, a glint came into her eye and a sly smile spread across her face. "Yes," the singer replied, "but it is not G-rated. I'll tell you and you can use it if you want." Even with that caveat, we had no idea what kind of story we'd be getting into. Jepsen set the scene, explaining that she'd been out with friends that night and had tried gin martinis for the first time. "I'd had very little experience with alcohol all together at this point, so [I] was sort of like, 'Well is it kind of like a beer?' Which it's not, my friends! Don't have three gin martinis if you're 5'2″ and about 100 pounds because it's not going to sit well." When the time to head home started, she told us her friends put her in the middle backseat (obviously the best place to avoid feeling carsick) and put on a Bjrk album (not necessarily the best option to induce calm feelings). "We start driving and they have Bjrk on," Jepsen recounted. "Which is great, except she's very dizzy music, OK? She's great if you're in a place where you're settled, you're not moving and you're not feeling like you're going to vomit. So I say to them, 'Can you please just put the radio on or something else because the Bjork thing is just too dizzy right now!'" This was circa the release of Jepsen's debut album, Tug of War, in 2008. Her label wasn't exactly pushing a single so when she did hear her song played that night she was beyond surprised. Way beyond. "They put on the radio and my song starts and I'm sick," Jepsen laughed. "As I'm being sick, I'm laughing because I'm like, 'What's going on?' Everyone's laughing and my Prada purse was ruined. It was a really happy, weird moment." Check out the video stream here. Radio.com is an official news provider for antiMusic.com.
