(Radio.com) Former American Idol season eight runner-up Adam Lambert has parted ways with his label RCA Records over a dispute about a covers album and is taking his fans with him.

Lambert was asked by RCA to record an album of covers. Lambert's legion of fans, often referred to as Glamberts, heard the news and expressed their distaste on social media. On Saturday (July 13) Lambert sent a statement to The Hollywood Reporter and explained his creative differences with the label.

"I've had an amazing few years working with the team at RCA; I admire all of them a great deal, and truly appreciate the energy & enthusiasm that went into making both Trespassing & For Your Entertainment successes," he wrote. "That said, at this point, we are indeed having the oft-cited 'creative differences' as to what my next project will be."

Lambert further explained how his label was pushing for an '80s cover album and that was the only kind of release they would support.

"While there are lots of great songs from that decade, my heart is simply not in doing a covers album," Lambert continued, citing that he must continue his evolution as a songwriter and vocalist. Read that here.
