(Radio.com) On Sunday night (Dec. 29), America tuned in to see Billy Joel, Carlos Santana and Herbie Hancock among the artists celebrated during the 36th Annual Kennedy Center Honors, which recognizes "living individuals who throughout their lifetimes have made significant contributions to American culture through the performing arts."

The exclusive event is held at the White House (this year on Dec. 8), and features all-star tributes to the honorees. Among this year's performers: Snoop Dogg, who along with Beastie Boys DJ Mix Master Mike, joined such jazz legends as Terence Blanchard, Chick Corea and Marcus Miller for a performance of Herbie Hancock classics.

According to Rolling Stone, it was Snoop Dogg who gave one of the evening's most rousing and well-received performances, meshing lyrics from his 1994 single "Gin and Juice" along with lines from"Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)," the 1993 hit by British act Us3 that heavily samples Hancock's song "Cantaloupe Island."

Snoop Dogg has released a short video of his family's trip to the White House, where he is caught exchanging pleasantries with the likes of singer Tony Bennett and Secretary of State John Kerry. That's not the only person he met.
