Metallica Play Escape Live For the First Time
. The band's headline set at Bader Field in Atlantic City featured the very first performance of their "Ride The Lightning" album in its entirety. Saturday's set also included the very first performance of "Escape" from the 1984 release. Frontman James Hetfield recently explained the album's significance to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "'Ride the Lightning' started to splinter us off from your Slayers and other thrash bands," explained Hetfield. "A song called 'Fade to Black' was an instant thorn in the side of the metal community.
