Speedy Ortiz Set EP Release
. The album is available in limited edition 10" random colored vinyl and digitally through Bandcamp and other major distributors. Speedy Ortiz has several release shows planned along the East Coast, celebrating the arrival of Sports EP with friends in Boston, MA (5/30), Danbury, CT (6/1), and Brooklyn, NY (6/2) before heading out on tour this summer. Fans at the shows will be able to purchase the vinyl ahead of the June 5th release. The Northampton, MA based indie rock quartet has been widely praised since their inception, with The Boston Phoenix hailing them, "one of Massachusetts's best new bands," and describing their infectious sound as "guitar-oriented slacker pop, heavy '90s jams with catchy choruses for head-bopping, or push pits." Originally a solo project of vocalist/guitarist Sadie Dupuis, the full band came together late last year as Matt Robidoux (guitar), Mike Falcone (drums), and Darl Ferm (bass) joined forces. Speedy Ortiz aren't aiming to be the next nostalgic buzz band; this is loud, clever, and honest music that draws from genuine influences and an undying love of indie rock's finest decade. Sports EP, recorded at The Sex Dungeon studio in Philly (Ugh God, Fat History Month, Florida=Death), highlights Speedy Ortiz's uncompromising knack for catchy hooks, tremendously overdriven guitars, brutal pounding drums, thick rumbling basslines, and a sharp yet bleak sense of humor. Their music twists and turns from the anthemic sludge of "Curling" to the brilliant word-play of the explosive "Silver Spring," and the twitchy post-punk guitar riffs of "Basketball". Speedy Ortiz's music is addictive and ferocious, creating exceptional rock with a shimmering muscular brilliance. Your soundtrack to the summer has arrived. Mixed by Justin Pizzoferrato (Dinosaur Jr., Thurston Moore, Doomstar) and mastered by Keith Freund (RIBS, Dirty Dishes).
