Singled Out: Ivy's Fascinated
. We started "Fascinated" with just an idea for this keyboard hook. Once we got that little melody going it became clear the kind of beat that would sit well under it - we wanted it simple. Andy wanted to use a drum machine but Adam insisted on playing it himself from scratch with his fingers after they found retro drum sounds. That drum beat got us really excited and inspired the totally cheesy bass line. All this happened in about 5 minutes. It was so fast. I hate to say it but those two guys were actually dancing around, and claiming this was the most danceable Ivy song we'd ever written. Which isn't saying much. They looked pretty funny how into it they were. It definitely had us all laughing. I wanted the lyrics to be somewhat vague but hinting at almost a dark, edgy, sort of sexy obsession with someone. I mean, a song like this would be so much cooler if it was a love song...but it would have to be one with a hopeless and bleak sense of romance to it. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you stream the entire album right here!
