Moby Playing With Peter Hook Tonight
. Moby was the special guest vocalist and joined the band on three tracks for the second night of their North American fall tour. Moby appeared mid concert and performed "Colony" and "A Means To An End" off Joy Division's seminal Closer album--of which Peter Hook & The Light are currently touring the U.S. and performing in its entirety. Moby returned for the encore and performed a spirited and ferocious rendition of the classic track "Transmission." "I love coming to Los Angeles and I'm thoroughly delighted that two great musicians, Moby and Perry Farrell, joined me and The Light for a great gig," says Peter Hook. "I'm touched by their support and their respect for Joy Division which they showed by delivering fantastic performances as always. I suppose LA's not a lonely place after all." Moby personally chose the songs to perform after initially requesting to attend the concert, and as Peter is always looking to get back on the bass, he asked him to "sing for his supper." His appearance was intended to be kept secret until Moby tweeted about the show last week to two and half million followers. "I was excited and nervous to be singing Joy Division songs with Peter Hook & The Light, but at soundcheck, hearing 'Isolation' in an empty theatre was magical," MOBY explains. "When I went on to sing 'Transmission' at the encore, I thought "Is this real?," it was an amazing experience. Thank you Peter Hook & The Light and everyone at The Music Box. Singing Joy Division songs is a dream come true for me. See you Friday." Given that Moby's appearance was announced prior to the concerts, another surprise was in store for the audience last night when legendary Jane's Addiction lead singer Perry Farrell joined the band onstage to perform Joy Division's haunting track "Isolation," returning to the same venue where he performed "Transmission" on the PH&TL's debut U.S. tour last December. The Music Box show marks the first of two Los Angeles performances by Moby with Peter Hook & The Light as he will also join the band to sing songs from Joy Division's "Unknown Pleasures" tonight, Friday, September 16 in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theatre.
