. "Absent" traces the story and effects of Fathers who weren't there to raise their children, for one reason or another, creating what Hunt calls "the father wound." Hetfield's father left his family when James was 13 and his mother died of cancer three years later. "My father left without saying goodbye," Hetfield says in the film.
