Preserving and Protecting the Frank Zappa Archives
. On Thursday, May 12 at the annual Association For Recorded Sound Collections conference, Gail Zappa and Joe Travers will provide an in-depth discussion on the legendary composer Frank Zappa's bountiful archives. Hosted by the UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive at The Wilshire Grand in downtown Los Angeles, Zappa and Travers will talk about their respective roles in preserving the archive, take questions from the audience and present rare material. Gail Zappa is the daughter of a rocket scientist, wife of composer Frank Zappa, mother of Moon, Dweezil, Ahmet and Diva Zappa, writer, art director and provocateur. She has changed a million diapers and a few minds - including her own. Joe Travers is eerily gifted, being from Erie, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. He is the official "Vaultmeister," archiving and co-producing material from the Vault for the Zappa Family Trust since 1995. He has also been Dweezil Zappa's choice as drummer for 18 years, from Z to ZPZ.
