Singled Out: Hotel of the Laughing Tree
. Most of the songs on this record are meant to be open ended and intended for listeners to create their own interpretations. The lyrics of Weather Maps are intended to instill a feeling of getting caught up in a situation that you have little or no control over and the frustration associated with it. In this case, we were fed up with the condition of the music industry and how little control we have as a band in terms of improving it's nature. This song was not on the original track listing of Terror and Everything After; we recorded all of the other tracks in January of 2010. In September, after we worked out a deal with Brookvale Records, we decided to return to Joshua Silverberg at Red Red Studio to record some b-sides. We love working with Joshua Silverberg as our producer. He has such a unique style and elevates all of our songs to a higher level. After hearing the final mix of Weather Maps, we wanted it to be on the final track list and the label had no objections. It's nice to be able to work with a group of people who give us free reign when it comes to creativity. If Brookvale's methodology is any indication of the music industry's future, maybe a few years down the road we'll be writing songs that have the complete opposite message. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
