. Austin360.com reported that the burglary occurred around 7:30 a.m. Police report that the intruder was a neighbor, and that Maddox's wife had phoned 911 to report a burglary in progress. Austin360 said a law enforcement source said the operator heard a single shot followed by a pause then several more shots. The Austin American-Statesman reports that friends and relatives of both men believe the incident may have been a tragic misunderstanding rather than an attempted burglary. Friend and neighbor Keith Landers told the Statesman, "It wasn't a robbery.
