Illness Sidelines Merle Haggard

. (Gibson) Merle Haggard has been forced to cancel his September run of concerts, because of an illness. According to the Associated Press, Haggard's publicist Tresa Redburn said that the veteran performer has a chest infection, but is doing OK.

Haggard, who is 73, went under the knife in 2008 due to lung cancer. Redburn said this infection is totally unrelated.

The country star has been touring on his most recent album, I Am What I Am. He will be honored alongside Paul McCartney and Oprah Winfrey in December at the annual Kennedy Center Honors. He will also be inducted into the California Hall of Fame. - more on this story
