Sharon Jones Of The Dap-Kings Live From Daryl's House

Featuring a seven-song set that includes the Daryl-penned standards "Do What You Want, Be, What You Are" and "It's Uncanny," a soaring cover of Sly and the Family Stone's "Hot Fun" and four great Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings songs, the Webby-winning series' latest episode debuts Sept. 15 at www.lfdh.com.

The latest Live from Daryl's House spotlights the powerhouse vocals of Jones, who has made a name for herself with four independently released albums, including the latest, I Learned the Hard Way, recorded at their House of Soul Studios, which debuted at #15 on the Billboard charts when it was released earlier this year on their own Daptone label. The Boston Globe raved that Jones "sings of hard times, infidelity, and other life lessons with total authority." Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings' cover of Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" was featured in the opening credits of last year's Oscar-nominated movie Up in the Air, and included on the soundtrack album.

Sharon had the time of her life during the sessions. "Oh, man. First off, it was the best piece of roast beef I ever ate," she enthuses. "But seriously, It was such an honor and a thrill to be at Daryl's house and to get to make music, relax and have a good time. Everyone should visit."

The set included Jones wailing away on the title track from her most recent album, I Learned the Hard Way, along with two tracks from her album 100 Days, 100 Nights, including the title track and "Tell Me," as well as "Got a Thing on My Mind," from the group's 2002 debut, Dap Dippin' with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings.

"Sharon Jones is an amazing talent and an incredible singer," marvels Daryl. "You could say she tore the roof off of my house."
