A Live Purple Christmas for Prince Fans

. (Gibson) At a recent press conference, Prince announced that his Welcome 2 America concert series would begin "on a purple day in December." According to New York R&B radio station WBLS, that purple day will be December 14.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will begin a run of east coast dates at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. He'll play three shows in Jersey (December 14, 15 and 17) before rocking Madison Square Garden on December 19 and 29. It's expected that more dates will be announced.

Although an official ticket announcement has not been made, WBLS claimed that tickets to the existing shows would go on sale on Saturday, October 30. According to the "Purple Rain" singer's press conference, the concerts will feature Maceo Parker, Cassandra Wilson, Janelle Monae, Sheila E., Mint Condition, Esperanza Spalding, Sinbad, the New Power Generation and others. Prince fan site Prince.org is suggesting that after-shows will take place at Harlem's legendary Apollo Theatre. - more on this story
