Buddy Morrow RIP
. Morrow hit the big time in the late '30s, when he joined the Artie Shaw Orchestra. A few years later, he joined the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and later joined Jimmy Dorsey's band, as well. In 1950, he formed his own orchestra, scoring hits with "Rose, Rose, I Love You," "Night Train," "One Mint Julep" and "Hey Mrs. Jones." In the '60s and '70s, Morrow did mostly session work, performing regularly on The Tonight Show. In 1977, Morrow took over the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, which had continued on after the legendary bandleader's death. Morrow held that post until the day he passed away. He appeared onstage with the band just three days before his death in Ormond Beach, Florida, playing his hit song, "Night Train." Morrow is survived by his wife Carole, two daughters, a son and three grandchildren. - Gibson.com is an official news provider for the Day in Rock. Preview and Purchase Buddy Morrow CDs |
