Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Kenneth M of Black Bone Child tells us about "Baby Baby" from one of their two brand new albums "Take You Blind". We now turn it over to Kenneth for the story:

Baby Baby is a funny story, it is quite possibly our oldest song in our catalog. I wrote this song before we recorded our first album in 2008. At that time we hadn't yet assembled a live band, so the demo of the song which was originally done (like most of the first album demos) with drum machines and direct guitars into the computer, aka no amps. We both thought that the song had potential but thought at the time that it was the runt and we didn't end up tracking it in the final recording sessions.

When we assembled the live band we were quickly playing gigs requiring one hour minimum sets, with sets going up to three hours, and at the time we had only our first album rehearsed which is only about thirty minutes of material. So without having anything else rehearsed and having never learned a cover, we were quickly scraping for songs to play live. So that is when Baby Baby first came out. The live band brought the needed life into the song which was lacking on the demo version. From then on it became kind of a live staple for us, our "rocker," it's fast paced and high energy a standard rock and roll song.

So this is where the song sat for a long time, just in the live repertoire in regular rotation. When Donny and I started thinking about what came to be the Alligator and Take You Blind joint release (which Baby Baby is on both records), we wanted to do an acoustic album just to see what would come of it. After we decided the track list of songs we were going to try acoustically, we just got into the studio and did it. We just kept the philosophy of "If it sucks, we'll scrap it." So we came to Baby Baby and started recording it and what came out blew us both away. It is my favorite track on Take You Blind and the one I had the least expectations for. I think we finally found where this song belongs, a more light hearted fun version of what the live version is ( which is represented on Alligator). We were so excited about it when we were recording it you can hear the fun we were having doing it, which I think is why it turned out so great. It's real and you can't fake that.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
