Ray Johnston Band Playing Surf Fest
. They're playing Twelfth and Highland in Manhattan Beach in conjunction with Surf Fest. The band's summer tour has seen them sharing stages with Los Lonely Boys, The Fray, The BoDeans making this a rare opportunity to catch them in an intimate setting and, certainly, a whole lot closer to home than their normal Texas/Mississippi/Alabama stamping/stomping grounds. Some background: The band formed in 2009 after Ray's career with the Dallas Mavericks was cut short by leukemia. When Ray went into remission for the fifth time, he formed the band and hit the road and recorded and album. The journey that took him from the NBA to a coma to survival and on to rock 'n' roll is chronicled in the 10-part HDNet documentary series Ray Johnston Band: Road Diaries. Sweet Tooth, the Ray Johnston Band's debut album is available through iTunes and Amazon.
