Gatlin Brothers and Jane Monheit Tri-C Center Grand Openers
. Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, at the Palace Theatre on Playhouse Square. Monheit will perform at the Tri-C Metro Campus Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15. Tri-C alum and famed jazz musician Dominick Farinacci of Solon will open the show. Having recorded six albums, Farinacci, a Juilliard School graduate, released the album "Lovers, Tales, and Dances" in February 2009. arry, Steve, and Rudy Gatlin started singing in their hometown of Abilene, Texas, and went onto make music history. Over the course of a four-decade career, the Gatlin Brothers have gone from dusty Texas stages to White House performances, from Broadway to Grammy Awards, and to the top of the country charts. The Gatlin Brothers' performances in concert are simply magical events, filled with incredible family harmonies, total professionalism and downright fun for both the trio and their audiences. The Brothers have scored more than a dozen Top 40 hits, including "Denver," "Houston (Mean That I'm One Day Closer To You)," Midnight Choir (Mogen David)," and "She Used To Be Somebody's Baby," among others. In 1979, Larry Gatlin won the ACM's Top Male Vocalist, "Straight Ahead" won Album of the Year, and "All The Gold In California" won Single of the Year. Monheit, an extraordinarily gifted jazz vocalist whose sincere and romantic interpretations of exceptional songs has made her a favorite in both the jazz and cabaret worlds, has garnered numerous accolades in the past decade. Her first album, Never Never Land, was voted top debut recording by the Jazz Journalist's Association and stayed on the Billboard Jazz chart for over a year. Subsequent albums either charted high, or in several cases, debuted at number one. Monheit yielded two Grammy nominations in the Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocals category, recognizing the work of Vince Mendoza on 2002's In The Sun and 2004's Taking A Chance On Love.
