Help Rihanna Fight Leukemia
. Now as a continuation of her ongoing philanthropic efforts, the superstar is personally campaigning for her fans and people around the world to join the fight against leukemia by voting for DKMS to receive the 250K grant which will be awarded to one deserving organization at the end of the month. Rihanna will star in a public service announcement for DKMS urging people to vote for the organization here while honoring bone marrow donors from around the world who have selflessly saved the lives of strangers. Ive learned the hard way that anyone can be affected by leukemia. It is a disease that does not discriminate amongst age, race or gender. It is the number one disease children in the U.S. die of and it is particularly hard for minorities to find a match because they are underrepresented in the national registry. Sadly only seventeen percent of African Americans in need of a transplant will receive one. Join the fight against leukemia and vote for DKMS here today, said Rihanna. If DKMS is awarded the 250K grant---lives will be saved, said Katharina Harf, Co-Founder of DKMS Americas. Funds will go directly to registering nearly 4,000 potentially life-saving donors. Each year, more than 140,000 people are diagnosed with a blood cancer, such as leukemia or lymphoma. Less than 30% of patients can find a match in their own family; the other 70% must search for an unrelated donor. Sadly, only 3 out of 10 patients will receive the transplant that could save their lives. Pepsi accepted one thousand ideas February 1st thru February 15th and the general public is urged to vote for their favorite online beginning April 1st thru April 30th to determine who will receive 5K, 25K, 50K and 250K grants.
