Frost took the spotlight in 2007 with his critically acclaimed LP Theory of Machines. Wire Magazine called it "simply awesomethis is Arvo Prt as arranged by Trent Reznor," and the BBC's Mary Anne Hobbs called it "arresting and exquisite" including the title cut on her acclaimed Evangeline compilation. Taste-making European music retailer Boomkat named Frost "one of the most interesting and groundbreaking producers in the world today" and even went so far as to call Theory of Machines "the future of electronic music."
Three years later, Frost returns with BY THE THROAT. Produced in Iceland by Frost and Valgeir Sigursson (Bjrk, Coco Rosie, Bonnie "Prince" Billy), the album also features performances by Amiina, The Arcade Fire's Jeremy Gara, Swedish metal outfit Crowpath and composer Nico Muhly.
Aside from the traditional musical language of harmony and melodyas with the strings on "Leo Needs A New Pair Of Shoes"BY THE THROAT includes musique concrte, weaving nonmusical sounds into the sonic fabric. Wolves snarl and lions groan in "Killshot;" the microscopic clicks and whirs of killer whales on the hunt in "Through The Roof Of Your Mouth;" and the unmistakable sound of a human gasping for breath in "Hbaksja." There is also the sheer physical experience, the visceral effect of Frost's seismic rhythms and high-pitched shrieks on the listener's body.
Frost's music's intense physicality has filled gallery spaces and driven award winning contemporary dance productions by the Australia-based Chunky Move, the Icelandic Dance Company and ongoing collaborations with dancer/choreographer Erna marsdottr. Frost earned an ARS Electronica Prize honorary mention and Helpmann Academy award nomination for the Chunky Move production Mortal Engine, which will make its U.S. premiere in December 2009 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
