Led by Laurie Morvan on guitar and lead vocals, the band has had an impressive surge of popularity around the world after the release of the group's 2007 album, Cure What Ails Ya, which included not only fantastic reviews of the disc, but also extensive national touring and additional acclaim as a finalist in the International Blues Challenge and finalist in the Blues Foundation's Best Self-Produced CD competition, both held in Memphis, Tennessee in 2008 (the ONLY band to do so).
Morvan's soulful, yet energetic blues guitar attack was singled for praise from a wide variety of media, including Guitar Player ("Morvan singes the strings"), Blues Revue "Wiry, fiery solossweet, soaring voice"), Down Beat ("Superior pop-blues") and Vintage Guitar ("Fearless and freshplays with plenty of imagination").
On her fourth CD, Laurie went to an outside producer for the first time, bringing in Steve Savage, who's worked with Elvin Bishop and Robert Cray, among others. Laurie wrote all 12 songs on Fire It Up!, which showcases an even stronger development in her songwriting ability, guitar work and overall performances than her critically-acclaimed previous album. The new album is also a more blues-focused release, with Laurie bringing to the songs her perspectives of the challenges she's faced as a female blues guitarist. Songs such as "Lay Your Hands," "Livin' in a Man's World," Let Me Carry Your Troubles," "Come on Over to My BBQ" and "Caf Boogaloo" are bound to be instant favorites with the media and fans alike.
After a recent lengthy tour of the Midwest, the Laurie Morvan Band is poised for even bigger things in the near future. Fans on the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise in October will get to see Laurie jamming with a number of different bands throughout the trip; and on October 24, the Laurie Morvan Band will celebrate the release of Fire It Up! with a special CD release show at Humphrey's Backstage Music club in San Diego, where she'll be opening for Ronnie Baker Brooks. The band will also be doing a CD release show on November 6 at Cafe Boogaloo in Hermosa Beach, California.
