Buckcherry frontman Josh Todd was originally inspired to become involved with Childhelp when he read A Child Called It, the renowned tale of abuse and neglect by Dave Pelzer, when it was assigned as homework to his daughter. Unable to shake the feelings the book conjured in him, Todd and guitarist Keith Nelson wrote, "A Child Called It" and "Rescue Me" for the band's album Black Butterfly.
"If we can reach and save just one child or even their abuser from joining the terrible cycle of violence and abuse, then I will do whatever I can to support them. As a father, I can't bear to think of children being abused, and knowing that we will help point them in a direction where they can get help is very important to us," says Todd. Adds Nelson, "We hope that by standing up and saying 'This is not ok; there is help out there,' we can make an impact."
"It is a horrible fact that four children a day die of child abuse in this country alone. Buckcherry helps us reach a very important demographic. Having the band deliver the message is really helping to raise awareness and the donation will go to further our cause," says Sarah Rodriguez, Vice President, Corporate Relations for Childhelp. The band has earmarked the donation to go towards the organization's foster care programs.
Dubbed the Next Great American Rock Band, Buckcherry has been touring arenas across the country in support of their album Black Butterfly, which was named iTunes Rock Album of the Year and has produced three multi-format hits including "Don't Go Away" and "Rescue Me." The band will continue to raise both awareness and funds for the charity at their upcoming tour dates in effort to help prevent the harm of any more children.
The band is currently inviting fans to be a part of their new video for "Talk To Me." For more information, please visit Buckcherry.com.
