The scoop on our first single, 'One More Time'? I've often said that the gist of it is to say what you believe in and stand for, to have the strength and courage to stand up for your convictions and assert them with your head up high. It's a song that came from a place of angst and frustration, I can tell you that.
More specifically though, back in the day when that was written, things between me and a lady were not going so well. I had a lot on my mind that I couldn't say and that many people advised me not to say. So right around then I get myself into this band with these delightfully crazy lugs called PJ, Dave and Jim and we decided one night to jam out a righteous new song. We had been playing some of the band's older catalog, stuff written with their old singer, before I came on board, and now it was time to actually crank out one with the new lineup. Well crank it out we did! The song has gone through several changes since the original version, but the song we wrote that day had the main riff, lyrics, melody and chorus. The lyrics were, of course, about not being able to speak my mind freely with the lady at hand, and I was not happy about the whole scenario.
Anyway...that's the straight dope from my brain, to the page, to your ears and eyes. One last bit of interesting song fact: The screams in One More Time were not part of the original song. They came about sometime during a practice months later. I just kinda did it at the start of the song, Jim thought it was cool (as did I) and we kept it. When we went into the studio, we almost didn't bother to record it, but I did one just for kicks and it stuck. Somewhat unfortunately, this means more work for me to do now whenever we play it live but good rock n roll don't come easy!
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
