The debut installment of the program will begin on January 11, 2009 with The Raconteurs, whose furious and blistering Friday afternoon set is viewed as among the best of the 2008 event. Four of the songs will be available as free audio downloads - one will be available to everyone, while the other three can be downloaded by Bonnaroo Community members only (membership sign-up is free). The songs that will be available are: "Consoler Of The Lonely," "Old Enough," "Blue Veins" and "Top Yourself." To coincide with the launch, select radio stations across the country will broadcast the entire set on Sunday, January 11th 2009.
The Raconteurs arrived in Manchester, TN, that hot June day on the heels of their Grammy-nominated (best rock album and best engineered) second record Consolers of the Lonely. What first appeared to be a fun side project for all of its members (Brendan Benson, Patrick Keeler and Jack "LJ" Lawrence - both of The Greenhornes and Jack White of The White Stripes), soon became recognized as a major band to be reckoned with as their first album, Broken Boy Soldiers, yielded one of the biggest singles of 2006, the #1 modern rock song, "Steady, As She Goes." Moreover, the explosive energy they brought to their live shows confirmed that these four old friends had much more in mind than a one-off. The Raconteurs were the real deal.
After a year of touring, the band went back into the studio in May 2007 at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, TN, and began recording Consolers of the Lonely. If anyone had speculated on whether The Raconteurs would make another record, or if they really were an on-going concern to the band members, Consolers of The Lonely is about as emphatic confirmation as one could hope for. The record is a thundering rollercoaster of vigorous tunes, each one a pulse-raising slice of dynamite.
As proven on tape, The Raconteurs that showed up in Manchester, TN, on June 13th, 2008, were feeling good, loose and ready to dive headfirst into Bonnaroo. What they delivered was a classic performance. On January 11th the complete performance will be available to relive or experience for the first time at www.Bonnaroo.com.
Bonnaroo will take place June 11 - 14, 2009 on the same beautiful, 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, 60 miles southeast of Nashville. The festival continues to make a strong impact on the American music industry. It has served as a launching pad for such popular artists as Norah Jones, Jack Johnson, Robert Randolph, My Morning Jacket, Ray Lamontagne, Matisyahu, and many others. A creative and cultural mega-success, Bonnaroo has also featured a staggeringly diverse range of world-class acts such as Bob Dylan, Metallica, Neil Young, Radiohead, Willie Nelson, The Police, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Tool, Wilco, The Dave Matthews Band, James Brown, The White Stripes, The Dead, Regina Spektor, Widespread Panic, Death Cab For Cutie, Elvis Costello, Amadou and Mariam, Beck, Against Me!, The Black Crowes, Alison Krauss, Bright Eyes, Bonnie Raitt, Steve Earle, Jurassic 5, Modest Mouse, The Mars Volta, Common, Burning Spear, the Flaming Lips, among so many others.
