While 2009 saw notable third installments of albums from the likes of Lil Wayne and Jay-Z, The Hood Internet was already ahead of the game with their fourth installment. The Mixtape Volume Four is their latest in a series of dace party-ready full-length mixes, and stands as a 'best of' for their past year worth of tracks.
Some of the best songs from the past year from the likes of Grizzly Bear, Matt and Kim, and Dirty Projectors, get dropped into the mix in the same breath as classics from Public Enemy, Dead Prez, and Weezer. It's the mash-up done better, and it's the soundtrack to your next party available now for free download via The Hood Internet's website (thehoodinternet.com). The Hood Internet are also pleased to offer the full version of "Back That Sleepyhead Up" (Passion Pit X Juvenile) for the first time here
In an age of immediacy, The Hood Internet gives the people what they want on a daily basis -- even if they don't know they want it yet. Marauding the pop, rap and R&B landscapes like laptop-armed alchemists, DJs STV SLV and ABX (aka Steve Reidell and Aaron Brink) drop the unlikeliest elements into their pot and make gold -- from Dirty South rap to Canadian indie rock to "French Touch" electro to pretty much whatever else you got. They've been cooking up full song mash-ups at a breakneck pace since the spring of 2007, posting tracks to their site on the regular, and compiling the best tracks into album-length continuous mixes. The Mixtape Volume Four seamlessly mixes 30+ mash-ups representing more than 60 artists into a little more than an hour. While these mixes may be all new to many people, Hood Internet completists will be excited to hear several never-before-heard mixtape exclusives. One of these tracks, "Back That Sleepyhead Up" (mixing Passion Pit with a classic Juvenile beat by Mannie Fresh), has already found its way to the top of the Hype Machine popular tracks chart within days of the mixtape dropping. The Mixtape Volume Four is their victory lap and a chance to set the stage for 2010. With upcoming original collaborations with Chicago rapper Kid Static and a full-length recording project that will expand the scope of what they do, 2010 is shaping up to be another big year
