Pedal steel, accordion, vibes and strings augment the sound and call to mind some of the vast Australian landscape that influenced the songwriting on their album Bad Advice, with "15 Below" opening the collection with the unmistakable yearning that weaves throughout.
Marvelann began in Portland, Oregon around 1999. It was put together by Simon Honisett who moved to the US from Australia in 1998. Simon had previously been in a band called Sea Stories who put out 2 albums on IRS records in the early 90s.
Marvelann recorded a debut self-titled record in 2003 and the most recent recording was done at the home of drummer, and longest serving member, Jonathan Jubera's house in Portland. The drums were recorded in the basement and the rest of the tracking upstairs. Only one time was Jonathan's wife, Lisa, asked to "keep it down".
The record was mixed at Type Foundry in Portland by Simon and Adam Selzer and features a bunch of extra people not found in the band. Pedal steel, accordian, vibes and strings augment the sound and call to mind some of the vast Australian landscape that influenced the songwriting.
'Bad Advice' is now available on iTunes.
