The first single from the new album, "Sex on Fire," has sold well over 100k units since its release on September 8th, making it the #1 single for two weeks straight, with a third week on top looking likely. All three of the band's previous records have now re-entered the top 50.
All of this occurred while the band was in America, taking New York City by storm. Two powerful, high-profile television appearances on Saturday Night Live and the Late Show with David Letterman as well as a sold-out, rare underplay for the lucky few at Webster Hall and the release of the Spin cover on top of all the incredible news coming from overseas helped fuel a celebratory six days during which the band seems to have entered a new phase of their career in this country.
"Sex on Fire," already a #20 modern rock record and climbing rapidly, is the band's highest charting radio single in the US so far. Also, within a day of release, Only By The Night is #1 at iTunes and the label is expecting a top-10 debut on the Billboard top 200.
