. Velvet Van Hagar was a top story for this week. Here it is again: (PR) Velvet Revolver's Matt Sorum will be recording a song in San Francisco with Sammy Hagar, original Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and guitarist Billy Duffy of The Cult for Sammy's upcoming solo album, marking a reunion in the studio for Sorum, who was The Cult's drummer, and Duffy.

This Thursday, July 17, Camp Freddy - featuring Sorum and bandmates Billy Morrison, Dave Navarro, Donovan Leitch and Chris Chaney - will play the "Stamping Out Disease" benefit gig at the Viper Room in West Hollywood.

Proceeds of this show will go towards helping to offset medical costs for music industry veteran and Camp Freddy road manager Scott P, who has been diagnosed with cancer. The band will also auction off a Les Paul guitar from the stage (donated by Gibson Guitars) which will be signed by every performer that evening. - more on this story
